Shop Floor Data Capture helps Tinsley Rejig Warehouse
Sheffield-based wire products manufacturer, Tinsley Wire Limited have installed an integrated barcode data capture system from Crown Computing.
The problems the company faced were mainly within the finished goods warehouse, stock levels were proving difficult to control as well as the locating of goods around the warehouse. WIP and finished goods information was manually gathered, which meant the data was typically 24 hours old, pretty impressive for manual methods but the business needed real-time data.
Using Crown's Factory Monitoring and Control and DC-Connect software in the warehouse, Production ID labels are created for each item, Crown's system then reads each label as the item comes off the production floor, and heads for the warehouse, the data is downloaded into Tinsleys custom-built sales order processing mainframe.
Kevin Philips, a member of Tinsley's SFDC project team says, "the availability of accurate information on finished goods levels has prompted significant changes in the way the plant manufactures, having accurate data on stock availability means we can make decisions according what is best for the business as a whole".
As a result, stock levels, have been driven down, while, at the same time, delivery performance has improved by 50 per cent".
