Walsall Council computers flick on to flexitime
A state-of-the-art computer system aimed at monitoring flexitime hours worked by Walsall Council staff is being installed at the authority.
The new system, supplied by Tamworth-based Crown Computing Ltd, aims to drastically cut down the vast amount of paperwork involved in timekeeping and radically improve administrative efficiency.
From July flexitime workers will either be registered at the time and day they start work by swiping their ID cards as they enter security doors in the Civic Centre and Council House or when they log on to their computers.
Staff will also be able to check their own flexitime details, holiday status and sick days using the Council's web-based intranet system which will be linked up to the new Open Options Flexitime Management system.
Walsall Council leader, Councillor Mike Bird, said that the new system would provide up-to-date information that would enable the authority's flexible working policy to operate more effectively benefiting staff managers and employees alike.
He said: "This will radically reduce time-consuming paperwork and make administration much more efficient."
Crown Computing provide systems for major blue-chip clients like Airbus (UK), Lloyds TSB, Scottish Power and several other local authorities.
Managing Director Mike Hawkesford said he was pleased that they had won the contract to supply a new system, which was scheduled to go on line from July.
