The Problem
When Flavel-Leisure expanded their workforce to meet a 28% increase in sales, they had to find a way to eliminate the time-consuming, administrative burden of processing clockcards.

| FM&C |
| - Time and Attendance |
A system that provides efficient manpower deployment, in depth analysis of absenteeism, sick pay and shift calculations and interfaces into their payroll system.
"Crown's system is a godsend, giving us better control over our workforce, five minutes after a shift has started we can evaluate production capacity"
Flavel-Leisure is part of the Consumer Products Division of Glynwed International Plc. The company based at Leamington Spa in the Midlands is a leading manufacturer of domestic cookers and gas fires. Employing around 1,000 people, they take great pride in the innovation and design of their range of appliances which reflect the ever-changing trends in interior design and lifestyles. The company produces approximately 70,000 Flavel gas fires and 130,000 Leisure cookers each year.
As a result of the overwhelming popularity of their newly introduced Rangemaster they experienced a 28% increase in sales. This created a need to replace their existing manual clockcard system, which involved huge amounts of manual effort and administration time.
Peter Hodgkins, Systems Manager explains, " We looked at replacing our time consuming manual system with a software based employee management system. We were already happily using trace ability and stock control software from Crown, and because of our existing relationship and their specialist knowledge of Time & Attendance, they were the ideal choice to provide all the facilities we required".
Now all Flavel-Leisure staff from board directors down to the 750 hourly paid production staff register attendance. Instead of manually clocking employees now swipe a barcoded ID badge through any of the six Feedback terminals situated around entrances to the two Leamington Spa sites.
Peter Hodgkins continues, "The beauty of the Crown Time & Attendance system is that any authorised person in our AS/400 network, about 80 users, can access the Time & Attendance information. No special interface is required, even team managers who have never used a PC before have taken to the system very easily".
The introduction of the system not only benefits Management, but also the shop floor, where overtime, absence and any disciplinary procedures can be dealt with quickly. According to Andy Rigg, Team Manager "Crown's Time & Attendance system is a god send giving us better control over our workforce, five minutes after a shift has started we can evaluate production capacity".
Other departments are also benefiting from the system. Payroll and Personnel Staff have found a dramatic reduction in queries about hours worked. Allocation of sick pay, and shift calculations are easily and simply processed eliminating double checking of clock cards and absence notes. All this information can now be called up on screen immediately.
